What feels like an ending is often a clearing.

Our clinical approach is grounded in authenticity and genuine curiosity — a commitment to understanding each client’s unique experience with openness and without judgment.

We specialize in working with women who are navigating relational upheaval and the complex, often disorienting process of rediscovering who they are. Whether that looks like the end of a relationship, estrangement from family, leaving behind old roles, or simply the quiet realization that the life you've been living doesn't quite fit — this work is for you.

We specialize in the intersection of big T and little t trauma and the varied ways it manifests — in the body, in relationship dynamics, and in the patterns that keep us living smaller than we deserve. We work with clients who are ready to establish healthier boundaries, step out of old patterns, and build relationships and a sense of self that actually belong to them.

Our treatment approach draws on EMDR and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction — evidence-based modalities that engage the body and nervous system as central to the healing process, rather than relying on cognitive insight alone.

Our background spans community mental health settings and direct work with multilingual youth and LGBTQ+ adults. We bring personal depth of understanding to issues of immigration and cross-cultural identity, divorce and co-parenting, single parenthood, child placement, chosen family, and what it takes to rebuild after significant life disruption.

The work.

Individual therapy

Individual counseling

Individualized counseling to untangle old patterns and figure out what might be waiting over the next hill. We meet you where you are.

EMDR

EMDR therapy

For what talking alone can't reach. A body-based, research-backed approach for processing and letting go of relational wounds.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness-based stress reduction

Practice practical evidence-based skills for building a more compassionate relationship with yourself you can take with you out of the office.

Nature therapy

Walk and talk forest sessions

The human movement of walking naturally serves to support the body in processing difficult material. Lower your cortisol, clear mental fog and enhance creative problem-solving with the rhythmic, bilateral movement of walking.

Ketamine support

Ketamine integration support

Expanded states open new perspectives on old patterns and increase brain plasticity for a limited window. Support your ketamine treatments with therapeutic processing for lasting shifts in identity and relational patterns.

Couples

Collaborative couples therapy

Relational change requires each partner to do their own work. Each individual works with their own therapist in separate sessions, and comes together for joint sessions with both therapists present. This model keeps individual growth at the center while supporting the relationship as a whole.

Common questions

Initial free consultation

We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation as a first step. This is a chance for us to get to know each other and see if working together feels right for you. During our conversation, I'll listen to your goals and concerns, share a little about how we work, and answer any questions you have about therapy or our practice.

If it feels like a good fit, we can get you scheduled for the intake session to begin this journey together.

How do I get started?
Send us an email at connect@sandcountycounseling.com or call 608.200.4220. Tell me a little about what you're looking for — there's no pressure and no wrong way to start. I'll typically respond within one business day and schedule a free 15-minute consultation with you.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients?
Yes, absolutely. We have experience working with LGBTQ+ adults and provide affirming, identity-competent care. You are welcome here exactly as you are.
What is the difference between big T and little t trauma?
Big T trauma refers to single major events — accidents, assault, loss, disaster. Little t trauma refers to the quieter, cumulative experiences that are sometimes harder to name — chronic stress, emotional neglect, difficult relationships, or growing up in an environment that didn't feel safe. Both are real, both live in the body, and both deserve care.
What is EMDR and is it right for me?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed therapy that helps people process distressing memories and trauma at the nervous system level — not just through talking. Before we begin any processing work, we spend significant time building the skills and internal resources you need to stay grounded. For some clients that preparation phase takes weeks or months — and that work is just as valuable as the processing itself.
What are walk and talk forest sessions?
Walk and talk sessions are therapy on the move — we meet outdoors at a local forest or green space and walk while we talk. Research shows that time in nature lowers stress hormones and can make difficult conversations feel more accessible. These sessions are available on a case-by-case basis depending on your needs and goals.
What is ketamine integration support?
Ketamine integration support helps clients who are undergoing or have undergone ketamine-assisted therapy to process and make meaning of their experiences, carrying those insights into lasting change in daily life.
Do you accept insurance?
Please reach out at connect@sandcountycounseling.com or call 608.200.4220 and I'll share current information about accepted insurance plans and self-pay options.
What if I'm nervous about starting therapy?
That's completely normal — most people feel that way. You don't need to have it figured out before reaching out. We'll go at your pace, and the first step is just saying hello.
